Gnome Roam – Newmillerdam Country Park

Days out during the summer holidays can cost an arm and a leg and even just doing 1 or 2 a week that require paying for can really rack up the pound signs! I’ve been trying really hard over the last few weeks to keep our weekday activity costs as low as possible, so when a friend told me about a free ‘Gnome Roam‘ then we had to go and check it out. Newmillerdam Country Park, Wakefield Set in a beautiful part of West Yorkshire, this woodland walk offers a great family day out at little to no cost. The only cost we incurred was £1.30 for parking, but if…

    Avoiding The Journey From Hell

The holiday season is royally upon us (not the Christmas kind, don’t worry it’s not one of those eager beaver kind of posts… we ain’t anywhere near that prepared!). The feelings of excitement preparing for a 5* holiday somewhere exotic in kid-free hotels are nothing more than a distant memory. Instead I’m going to spending the next week frantically planning on avoiding the journey from hell as we get ready to head off on our first all-inclusive, family resort holiday… during school holidays. SHOOT ME NOW! We did go to Menorca last year, late in September once schools were back, but in hindsight it wasn’t our best idea. All the…

    Getting Slimy with Zimpli Kids

I’ve got to admit a ‘baff’ full of ‘gelli’ sounded like my worst nightmare. The thought of this gross, gooey mess consuming my beautifully white bath… oh and my children, filled me with horror. But I’ve got to say… it was gross but we LOVED IT! Zimpli Kids is a really innovative brand of messy kids stuff for both indoor and outdoor play, with products like the ‘Gelli Baff’, ‘Slime Blaster’ and ‘Simon Squirters’ just to name a few! They come in different colours too, we received a pack of the red ‘gelli’ to try out but you can also get them in blue, green and pink too! Perfect if…

    Superhero, Super Inappropriate?

Rewind 8 months or so ago and it was one of the happiest days of my life. My then two-year-olds learned to say Hulk and Spider-man… they couldn’t string a sentence together, but they could recognise some of my favourite things! As a kid I absolutely loved all things ‘super’ related. My first love was probably the Thunder Cats (still haven’t quite forgiven my mum for getting rid of all those figures) and it progressed into the world of Marvel. X-men specifically. I was obsessed! So, when the boys started showing ANY signs of liking superhero ‘stuff’ I jumped on it. It was also a welcome relief from Thomas the Tank…

Toys that make my 🔥’Burns List’🔥

Out of all the toys your child or children have, I bet only a couple of them are played with the most. They’re usually the ones that cause the most mess when being played with, the most arguments because they can’t be shared, the most noise, the most tears, the most tantrums… you catch my drift? 🤦 Your child loves these toys but you hate them. You rue the day you bought them, or accepted them, unwittingly not knowing that this toy was going to cause you harm, physically and/or emotionally. You’ve tripped, slipped, kicked and fell over it escaping near death umpteen times a day. You’ve chucked it in…

Top 7 Things to do along the M62 Corridor this Summer

The summer holidays have landed… I’m only just starting week three and already pulling my hair out thinking of what to do with the kids. I’ve been researching a bit and recounting some previous great days out, so thought I’d share with you the top seven places I intend to visit over the next few weeks. Driving too long with my two can be a trauma at times so I’ve looked for simple routes, all along the M62… starting East and moving over to the West (and all places I can get to before Toy Story 2 finishes and all hell breaks loose). #1 The Deep- Hull I really love…

    365 My Arse!

My name is Phil and I use too much technology to keep my kids entertained… there I’ve said it. Feels good to get it off my chest but in fairness (to myself) I’m sure I‘m not the only one, and if AA did support groups for techno-abusive parents I would imagine the room would be filled and the meeting a lengthy one at that! I might be being a little harsh on myself but I started fatherhood with all the best intentions of not having kids sat in front of TV’s and certainly not in front of an Ipad… I mean what 2 year old can or should be able…
