    The Top 7 Tag

Can you believe it’s really 2019 already? I mean seriously, I’m sure by 2020 we were supposed to be zipping around on hover boards like something from Back to the Future… and I don’t mean on those imposters that are really on wheels and are prone to exploding whilst on charge! I can’t believe 2020 isn’t actually that far away, Pips will be turning 40 and I’ll be on the slippery slop too clinging on to my 30’s for one final year… yikes! But let’s not dwell on that just yet, it is only January after all and I was recently tagged by fellow blogger Rachael from Lukeosaurus And Me to take part…

Love It or List It… (or Just Get Over Yourself)

The ‘Curse of the Itchy Feet’ has reared its ugly head once again… sounds like a great Hollywood blockbuster, doesn’t it?? Well I’m afraid it’s not quite so exciting but has produced a fairly epic dilemma in our house again… it occurs fairly regularly and usually results in a year or two of Craig saying ‘no‘, followed by us doing some costly work to the house, followed by us moving house within the next 6 months! Now before I plead my case to you and gather your support and sympathies for the ‘tragic’ living conditions I suffer, I should really ‘fess up and say that we live in a really lovely 4…

    Mothers Ruin?

Here at the Parenting Phil’s we love a gin and tonic… as you might have guessed this from our last video and from a few insta posts, and from a few other blogs… OK we talk about G&T fairly regularly! And whilst there’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a relaxing beverage on an evening after a long day of playing referee, chef, bottom-wiper and ‘Daddy Robot’ (don’t ask), it’s important to recognise when you might be having one too many. This week in the UK it’s Alcohol Awareness Week, a good time to take a step back and reflect on your booze intake and ask yourself  ‘Am I meeting all my daily…

    Rub-a-Dub-Dub, THANKS for the Grub!

October 2018 has been MEGA for the Parenting Phils, we set out to have a jam-packed month of blogs, reviews, interviews, guest posts and giveaways with our ‘Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Thanks for the Grub!’ theme. Well life through us a few curve balls to say the least, but guess what, we did it! We’ve had some fab guest posts this month from Louise talking about her sons nut allergy and how it has changed the lives of her whole family, from Rachael who shared her journey to starting a family whilst living with epilepsy and from Phil’s big sister, Jenny, who sold us on the idea that we need to suck it…

    The Sleeping ‘Rod’

Finding a parent who hasn’t had or who isn’t currently experiencing difficulties with kids and sleep is rare, and when you do find one, there are two things you can say to them; “LIAR” – You need to shout this and point at them (or just use an outstretched finger in their direction if you don’t want to shout ‘liar’- can be equally as effective) “Good for you” (said with a sarcastic tone that lets them know you’re calling them something unspeakable in you’re head!) It is really tough and so easy to get yourself in a mess over, because I’m pretty sure sleep deprivation is the biggest killer in…

    The Feeding ‘Rod’

Trying to get kids to eat the good stuff… or even eat at all in some cases, is tough! It is a very easy category to ‘grow’ multiple rods for your own back in, but hey, if they eat something green that’s a parenting win, right? Here’s some of our ‘Feeding Rods’… make sure to tell us yours in the comments section below! #1. Pudding- I use pudding as a bribe, I swore I wouldn’t and it goes against everything my food bible (‘Getting The Little Blighters To Eat’ by Claire Potter– full review coming in October) tells me, but it’s happened and I do it! I grew up having…

    The Travelling ‘Rod’

To kick start our ‘National celebrate the rod you’ve made for your own back’ week we thought we’d break our many ‘rods’ down into topics. When Pips and I got talking about our ‘rods’, the obvious ones were sleeping, eating and managing general behaviour but when I mentioned to Pips about having a ‘Travelling Rod’ blog, her response to me was that she doesn’t have problems in the car with her kids so “you can write that one“, my response was ‘good for you’ (and not in a passive-aggressive, eye-rolling, sarcastic tone at all… okay maybe just a bit). Well travelling with my kids can be ‘testing’ (shall we call it)…

    Superhero, Super Inappropriate?

Rewind 8 months or so ago and it was one of the happiest days of my life. My then two-year-olds learned to say Hulk and Spider-man… they couldn’t string a sentence together, but they could recognise some of my favourite things! As a kid I absolutely loved all things ‘super’ related. My first love was probably the Thunder Cats (still haven’t quite forgiven my mum for getting rid of all those figures) and it progressed into the world of Marvel. X-men specifically. I was obsessed! So, when the boys started showing ANY signs of liking superhero ‘stuff’ I jumped on it. It was also a welcome relief from Thomas the Tank…

Ten things that make me happy

I’m often considered [wrongly IMO] a ‘miserable git’, so when Katie at Heels & Hooves tagged me to take part in the ’10 things that make me happy’ blogger challenge, I thought I’d rise to the occasion and prove I’m not such a misery after all. Wish me luck I might get stuck by no. 6, but here we go, in no particular order… #1 The Terrible Twins Of couse the boys had to be numero uno, whilst they drive me up the wall, stop me sleeping, interrupt gin time and all the other parenting woes, they bring so much to my life and I can’t imagine life without them. Being a…
